Judges and Coaches

Interested in being a coach?

Are you an industry veteran who enjoys seeing new products come to fruition? Are you interested in helping young entrepreneurs along in their journey?

The Beall Butterworth Competition is grateful to the many members of the community who selflessly dedicate hours to the students and their product innovation dreams. Our professional volunteers dedicate their time in two possible ways – as coaches and judges. Below are the highlights of the time commitment and role that these vital volunteers play.

  1. Coaches

Coaches are introduced to student teams in an ad hoc environment. In each of the three formal coaching sessions, there is a theme that is introduced (e.g. communicating your product), and the coaches are given 15-20 minutes across 3-4 teams to engage in ad hoc coaching. Teams are rotated so that they get a variety of insights from different professionals.

Qualification: Coaches are screened for qualifications. A diverse set of backgrounds and skills are appreciated, but product development and startup experience are welcomed.

Commitment: Attend 3 coaching sessions for ad hoc coaching. Total time commitment is estimated at 5-7 hours. Coaches are encouraged to attend the showcase and awards but are not required to do so.
